Adding list items to table of contents: with numbers and indentation

This post is focused on making the solution presented in this post more flexible.



I have a document that consists mainly of a large nested list. It is appropriate to put the first two levels of list items into the table of contents. The code from the post above can be used to good effect, but, there are two main things missing for my application:




  1. Let each line in the TOC be enumerated with the same number or letter from the nested list.

  2. Let each successive level in the TOC be indented.

  3. Include a dotted line for each line in the TOC to guide the eye to the page number.


The result might look like this:
