Android ConnectivityManager active network on boot is null
I have a launcher app that needs Internet on the first screen. I have the standard method
public static boolean isNetworkAvailable(Context context) {
ConnectivityManager connectivityManager
= (ConnectivityManager) context.getApplicationContext().getSystemService(Context.CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE);
NetworkInfo activeNetworkInfo = connectivityManager.getActiveNetworkInfo();
Log.d("NetworkUtil", "network info is " + activeNetworkInfo);
return activeNetworkInfo != null && activeNetworkInfo.isConnected();
}
but getActiveNetworkInfo()
returns null on device boot, even after the main activity onCreate()
is called. How do I handle this? ConnectivityManager is not null.
I tried ConnectivityManager.ConnectivityAction
receiver but it still is not immediate.

probably because the network is not yet active? As per docs : "This may return null when there is no default network". Listen for connectivity changes with a callback - developer.android.com/reference/android/net/…. You cannot assume connectivity on boot.
