Unable to access data passed to handlebars in linked js file

0

I am working on a node app which uses handlebars. From my get route when I render the handlebar I pass it some variables. e.g. roomName
Within the handlebar this works:

<h1>{{roomName}}</h1>

The following script at the bottom of the handlebar page works:

<script>
$(function() {
console.log("chat room is {{roomName}}");
});
</script>

However, I have a linked js file in which the following does not work:

$(function() {

console.log("chat room is {{roomName}}");

How do I access the roomName in a js file included in the handlebar file?

  • Can you clarify what you mean by a 'linked js file', and include the code you're using to link it?
