Brokers and large sized Messages, is it a good solution

I have a requirement to share large sized data amongst consumers in a pub/sub topology. I started working with brokers and feel that this might not be the right way to share large sized data. Data size is approx 400 MB to 800MB.
Is it the right approach to use brokers, such as activemq, for exchanging large sized Messages.
If yes, then would the large sized Messages effect the performance of the brokers where a message is published to topic or a queue ?
If no, then is from the answer to transmit large sized data in the form of files ?
How does brokers distribute the large size messages ? Does broker load whole message in memory, which means the broker had to be equipped with a 100 GB of RAM.
My scenario is to distribute a 800MB message to 4500 subscribers.
