Unusual parentheses syntax in Wordpress Gutenberg JS
I have been reading though Wordpress Gutenberg source code. Can somebody please explain the purpose of the following syntax:
var hooks = (0, _hooks.createHooks)();
or
return (0, _hooks.applyFilters)('blocks.switchToBlockType.transformedBlock', transformedBlock, blocks);
It seems to work like an IIFE with arguments in the second set of parentheses being passed into the last item of the first set of parentheses... However I don't see the point. What is the zero doing? And why wouldn't you just call the function directly?

I could not see any var hooks = (0, _hooks.createHooks)(); on the linked file. But syntax pasted looks like es6 code compiled into es2015.
