Dear Fellow TeX enthusiasts,
This question is so basic that it won't even need a MWE - does anyone know whether it is a possibility that my file does not compile because
pageref{example}
precedes the actual
label{example}
in the text?
Thanks ever so much

If a label is not defined then??is printed. Even if he correspondingrefis latter in the document, the label will be defined once the document has been compiled twice.

it works, but you need to compile document at least twice (as for any reference).

if you get an error, you should show the full error from the log file
