Elsarticle Bibliography — Remove Title and Provide Hyperlink

What I am looking to do is, using the elsarticle document class and the standard elsarticle-num bibliography style ... possibly use the biboptions command to remove the title and provide a (URL) hyperlink to the article displayed in the final .pdf output. For instance, there exists information on sorting and compressing citations ... but I have found nothing about being able to remove a title or set its status to false or something like that:
usepackage{natbib}
bibliographystyle{elsarticle-num}
biboptions{sort&compress}
Does anyone know how to do this?

It's unclear exactly what you're wanting. Do you want to suppress the title for all entries or simply for one kind of entry (e.g., articles)? If the latter, you can follow the advice in the top answer of this question: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/138981/…

@MasonMalone Looking to suppress title for all entries, exactly. So it looks like I'd have to modify elsarticle-num.bst directly. But what about allowing for the entire reference to be hyperlinked to either a DOI or URL, whichever is easier?

Yes––regardless which route you want to take, you'll need to modify the .bst file directly. You can create a copy and modify it in case you need the original .bst for later. As for the hyperlink, I know that a URL or DOI can itself be hyperlinked when it appears in the reference, but I'm unsure what modification you would need in order to make the reference itself linked and not have the URL included.

@MasonMalone Looks like you read my mind then. I did exactly that and lo-and-behold, this was successful. What's interesting is that by removing the relevant line of code in the .bst file, what winds up being hyperlinked is the journal. This formatting I'm actually okay with, since Elsevier will wind up making their own modifications to the references section. I only wanted to do this as a convenience for the reader/reviewer.

Glad it worked. Just out of curiosity, is there a reason why these modifications make it easier for the reviewer? Why not leave the .bst file as-is?
